What’s Important Bernard Schwartz, in partnership with the New America Foundation, Calls for $1.2 Trillion Multi-Year Jobs and Infrastructure Program The surest and quickest way to create jobs and restore America's economic health is to initiate a multi-year national infrastructure program. We propose a six-year, $1.2 trillion investment of public and private funds to replace and upgrade our country's ailing infrastructure and create jobs for Americans in America. The Federal Government's commitment would cost about $360 billion over six years or about 30% of the total, with the balance borne by local, state and regional governments and the private sector. An average annual investment of $200 billion in public and private funds, of which approximately $60 billion in each of six years would come from the Federal Government, would create as many as seven million jobs. A program of this scale and duration would insure the continuity and the stability of demand needed to encourage greater private and foreign investment. It is the best solution available today to create the jobs and generate the growth our economy needs to get out of the current crisis. On August 4, 2010, Bernard Schwartz appeared on the Charlie Rose show to discuss the economy, infrastructure and his jobs plan. 10th Annual Baruch College Schwartz Communication For the past ten years, the Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute at Baruch College has brought together leaders in business and education for a critical dialogue on key issues facing both groups: evolving conventions, the impact of emerging technologies, and how we might collaborate to enable our students and employees to communicate effectively. This year's symposium, held April 10, revisited these issues and explored what the future holds for those invested in fostering effective communication in business and education.
